FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Take a look at our FAQs for answers to some of our most common questions.
How long have you been a videographer and how did you get started in the business?
Filming has been a passionate hobby of mine for around 3 years, i started off filming family holidays and birthdays and went on tour with the Knights of Nottingham (jousting) which was fantastic, however it was filming at my brothers wedding, which made me realise the direction i wanted to take and develop into a new career. I love working in the wedding industry, capturing a couples special day is an amazing experience. When I edit the footage I watch the same clip around 10-20 times, but for me It never loses its charm. In terms of myself, my favourite part is handing over the final edit , nothing beats watching the reaction of the newlyweds when they watch their video for the first time.
What's your approach to the day and your style of shooting?
Every couple is unique, therefore each wedding has a different approach. My aim is to tell a story with the film in the couples preferred style, i have done a journalistic approach for a couple who were adamant they wanted a natural flow with no interaction with the lens, whereas, other couples enjoy a more scripted approach capturing all those special moments in a fairy-tale ending. As a videographer I aim to be as discreet as possible, I want you to enjoy your day and not get in your way. Where possible I use my gimbal camera rig as it allows me to stay on the move compared to a traditional tripod which is very restrictive and can easily get in the way. I will only use a tripod when necessary eg. when filming the ceremony and all speeches.
Will our guests' view to be obstructed? Do you coordinate with our wedding photographer before the day?
Where possible I use the camera gimbal as this allows me to keep on the move so I am not in the way of you , your guests or your photographer. During the ceremony I use 1 camera on a tripod at the front of the church and another at the rear to capture the isle shots. With the first dance I use my gimbal and try to follow the photographer around the perimeter of the dance floor working as a team , I am always conscious about being in the pictures, however ,I do not mind having the photographer in my footage as they are an integral part of your day.
How long after the wedding are we provided with the footage and on what format is it provided?
It takes around 40-50 hours to go through the footage and edit the highlights to music, I aim to have the video with you within 6 weeks on a USB drive.
Do we speak to you before the wedding about what exactly we are looking for?
I prefer to meet with you a few weeks before the wedding to discuss the schedule for your day. You can inform me of your preferred style, any special requests and discuss any remaining concerns you may have, if possible I aim to attend the rehearsal (if I am available).
What equipment do you use?
When possible I will rely on natural lighting, when external lighting is required I attach the lamp directly to the camera, my main concern with external lighting is that creates multiple shadows, plus it can effect the photographers work. My equipment consists of 2 cameras , 2 tripods (when needed) , gimbal camera rig, and external microphones. I only capture the audio for the ceremony , speeches and first dance ,the other edits will be overlaid with music.
